UCF is becoming a Powerhouse University. Just to get in now many consider a 3.7 GPA normal. The University has taken some long term strategic moves which over the next five years could take UCF into the elite 4.0 category.
Firstly, UCF put their football stadium on campus which has dramatically improved its popularity and marketability. The Citrus Bowl where UCF used to play was considered by many as inaccessible, a daunting prospect to visit (as it was many miles from the main campus) and had relatively little custom built parking.
Secondly, UCF is full steam ahead with the development of the new medical campus. This will thrust the University well into the 21st century.
Parents have begun to figure out that the education at UCF is just as good as any private college. In addition, parents can do basic math - a year at a private college could easily set you back about $40K a year just in tuition, but UCF for in-state students is just small fraction of that.
If you plan on staying in Central Florida, attending UCF is a good idea. Eventually, as the campus gets bigger and the competition to get in gets tougher, the students attending this University will enter the local work force and many have and will become industry leaders creating a powerful alumni network in the area.
As Orlando grows UCF grows even faster.
UCF has undergone dramatic change over the last 15 years. If you have children, getting them into the University is hard, but will get much harder as it becomes a modern day academic powerhouse.
Go Knights.
